The Firebird

The Firebird ballet is a Russian tale of love and magic. The story takes place in an enchanted garden deep in the forest. Prince Ivan wanders into the garden and discovers the Firebird, a mystical creature that appears to be a beautiful woman with a bird-like appearance. Prince Ivan is searching for a beloved princess who has been captured by the evil magician, Kaschei. The Firebird uses her special powers to help Prince Ivan and teaches him how the power of love overcomes evil. This large cast ballet with elaborate scenery and costumes, Igor Stravinsky’s amazing score, combined with Elizabeth Wistrich’s choreography makes for a stunning theatrical experience.

Serenade – Director’s Choice

City Ballet of San Diego is proud to present George Balanchine’s Serenade, set to Peter Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score. Serenade is a milestone in the history of dance. It is the first ballet George Balanchine created in America and is one of the signature works of the New York City Ballet. Described as a dreamy moonlit masterpiece, Serenade will take your breath away and leave you wanting to see it again and again.

Ash – San Diego Premiere

With an accelerated tempo to the exciting music by Michael Torke, Peter Martins, Artistic Director of New York City Ballet, launches a non-stop cast of ten dancers on a series of thrilling solos, pas de deux and ensemble dances. Following last season’s Hallelujah Junction, Mr. Martins’ ballet will excite and thrill you.

Samuel Barber Adagio

Resident Choreographer Elizabeth Wistrich created her award-winning pas de deux in 1990. The hauntingly beautiful music of Samuel Barber inspired Ms. Wistrich to create a contemporary duet filled with invention and humanity. It is a ballet once seen will never be forgotten.
