Family Ballet Saturdays

Accompanied by the City Ballet Orchestra

Family Ballet Saturdays offer a perfect introduction to the world of classical ballet and music for children and their families. Join us for an exciting and interactive presentation by City Ballet dancers and members of the City Ballet Orchestra.  Hosted by Ballet Mistress Tanya Rogers, the programs offer an insight on choreography, music and dancers.

Pre-concert activities begin 30 minutes prior to the performance in the theater foyer.  Activities include photo opportunities with dancers, watching dancers prepare for the performance and listening as musicians delight you with musical excerpts.

A tribute to ballet’s greatest composer – Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky.  The one hour presentation includes excerpts from Swan Lake Act II, the Black Swan Pas de Deux, and more.

The full 2-hour performance of this favorite holiday classic.

Voted San Diego’s Best Nutcracker production by the “Tommy Awards”, this elaborate and elegant production, with exquisite costumes and scenery, will take you on Clara’s magical journey from her fun filled family Christmas party where toy soldiers and mice become life sized, to the enchanted Snow Forest and on to the Land of Sweets where she is welcomed by the Sugar Plum Fairy, her Cavalier and magical performances from dancers throughout the world.

Carnival of the Animals

A 1-hour presentation of Camille Saint-Saens’ humorous introduction to a bevy of animals. Camille Saint-Saens composed Carnival of the Animals in 1886. This whimsical and delightful work, showcasing various animals in a comical way has become a favorite to young and old alike. Saint-Saens was a serious composer of his time, but Carnival of the Animals shows his fun-loving side.
