Summer Dance Camp 2008

Session I: June 30 - July 12, 2008

Session II: July 14-26, 2008

Curriculum

Pre-Ballet

Children learn the joy of movement with the emphasis on rhythm, coordination and flexibility.  Basic ballet positions and terminology are introduced.  Interacting with other children in a positive environment adds to the child's sense of self-awareness.

Ballet Technique

Graded classes in Classical Ballet to meet the needs of students at each stage of their development.  Technique will be built upon learning solid placement and work habits.  Students will be challenged with increased complexity as they advance through the higher levels.

Pointe/Variations

Each student is carefully evaluated before starting study on pointe.  Sufficient understanding of correct placement and alignment must be demonstrated before pointe instruction begins thus decreasing the possible risk of injury.  Advanced pointe students will also learn and analyize classical pointe variations from famous ballet repertoire.

Turns and Allegro

Students will have additional studies in the area of ballet turns, exploring complex turning combinations including diagonals and menège.  The allegro studies will focus on learning how to move quickly through clean technical habits and clarity.

Creative Dance

Children experience expression through dance.  Dance movement is created by the students inspired by age-appropriate music, stories and props through encouragement by the instructor.
