Kroc Theatre. "Ballet On Fire" Saturday, November 4 at 8pm "Ballet On Fire" includes two critically acclaimed Stravinsky works, The Firebird and Stravinsky Suites, both choreographed by Resident Choreographer Elizabeth Wistrich. The Firebird (1979) is a classic Russian tale that tells the story of a mystical bird that saves fair maidens from an evil magician. It was the composer Stravinksy's first entry into the field of ballet music. This full production with elegant costumes with its forest setting and the mystical firebird has a magic all its own. Additionally, the company will present Flames of Paris Pas de Deux (music by Boris Asafiev, choreography after Vasili Vainonen, 1932) and Spartacus Pas de Deux (music by Aram Khachaturian, choreography after Yuri Grigorovich, 1968), both from the Russian repertoire. These ballets are virtuoso showpieces, designed to leave audiences breathless and cheering. The program will conclude with George Balanchine's famous George Gershwin ballet Who Cares?, which delightfully captures the energy and vitality of life in New York City (1970). This piece is performed with permission from the New York-based Balanchine Trust. Approximate Run Time: 2 hours 15 minutes, with one 15-minute intermissions.
