Ballet Goes to School
City Ballet offers special at-school programs to teach children about the performing arts, dance and ballet. City Ballet's at-school education programs meet the California State Standards for Dance.
School Assembly
Can't come to the theater? City Ballet's Ballet Goes to School program offers ballet at your school with a fun and informative 40-minute assembly. The program is performed by City Ballet's professional dancers in full costume. The program is geared for children, capturing and maintaining their interest. Study guides are provided for all teachers.
Nutcracker in a Nutshell
The complete Nutcracker story condensed into a 40-minute program, providing an introduction to the full-length classical ballet, The Nutcracker.
- Available: November 12 through 30, 2009
- Appropriate Grades: K through 12
- Cost: $450 for one assembly; $750 for two back-to-back assemblies
- Facilities: The school provides a microphone with a PA system, a stage space preferably 32' wide by 24' deep, and a nearby dressing room.
Ramona: Clashing Cultures
Ramona is a love story between a young girl of both Native American and Latina descent and Allessandro, a Native American boy, set in the 1880s in a fictional rancho not far from present-day San Diego. This is a fictional story, based on the true events depicted in Helen Hunt Jackson's best selling novel.
- Available: January 11 through April 30, 2010
- Appropriate Grades: 2 through 12
- Cost: $450 for one assembly; $750 for two back-to-back assemblies

Classroom Demonstration
Two dancers from City Ballet come to your classroom with a 30-minute Discover a Dancer program. Students learn ballet steps and the French terminology, plus a special, close-up and personal look into the ballet world.
- Available: January 11 through April 30, 2010
- Appropriate Grades: K through 8
- Cost: $100 for one classroom demonstration; $150 for two classroom demonstrations; $200 for three classroom demonstrations (multiple classroom demonstrations must be on same day)
