Janica Smith trained with Stewart Carroll and Sharon Newton, directors of Capital Ballet Center in Sacramento, for seven years prior to joining City Ballet, first as a trainee and then as an apprentice.  Janica augmented her training by attending summer programs at San Francisco Ballet, American Ballet Theatre's program in Austin and at City Ballet.  Janica joined City Ballet in 2002 and has been featured in many of City Ballet's productions, including Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, the Swan Queen in Swan Lake, Kitri in Don Quixote, Nikia in La Bayadere, Firebird in The Firebird, Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Diana in Diana and Acteon Pas de Deux, George Balanchine's Rubies, Concerto Barocco, Donizetti Variations, Who Cares?, Serenade, Agon, Divertimento No. 15, Apollo and La Source and many of Elizabeth Wistrich's ballets.  In the summer of 2005, Janica performed at the International Ballet Competition in Moscow and New York City.
