City Ballet's 2007-2008 Season
The Critics Rave About Great Dance in San Diego
Ballet on Fire
|
 |
City Ballet offers strength and artistic quality
usually reserved for larger big-city companies.
Kris Eitland, SanDiego.com Dance Critic
Nobody wanted Spartacus Pas de Deux to
end, except those with heart conditions.

The Nutcracker
|
 |
The ensemble dances, Kingdom of Snow and Waltz of
the Flowers, again showed the fine hand behind the scenes; well
rehearsed and together - well beyond the stage of "no
mistakes" - every head, every arm, line of torso, line and
height of leg - were presented as one body.
Anjuli Bai, ballet.co.uk Dance Critic
City Ballet offered a polished rendition... with
stunning performances by Janica Smith as the Sugar Plum Fairy and
Ariana Samuelsson as the Rose.

Carmina Burana and La Bayadere
|
 |
[T]he Kingdom of the Shades from La
Bayadere and a new setting of Carmina Burana presented
Sunday at the Birch North Park Theatre were simple, sophisticated
and sexy.
Kris Eitland, SanDiego.com Dance Critic
[T]he corps de ballet of this company has much
upon which to congratulate itself.

Don Quixote

City Ballet of San Diego, celebrating the close
of its fifteenth season as it fulfills the hopes and plans of its
founders, Steven and Elizabeth Wistrich; is performing one full
length classical ballet after another as well as the works of the
foremost choreographers of our time such as Balanchine.
Straddling these two worlds - closely allied but requiring
different approaches - is necessary if one wishes to be counted
among classical ballet companies of worth and note. City
Ballet has been more than successful thus far.
